Cinderella had her minions, along with a fairy godmother, to perfect her enchanting gown. While we cannot provide a bevy of singing birds and dancing mice to thread your wedding gown together, Be U Weddings has found a fairy godmother of sorts. Catherine Deane weaves fairytale-like allure into each of her creations. We were lucky enough to gain insight into her #Unbelievable fashions.

Q. We have been oogling your collection at BHLDN. Can you tell us what you incorporated into your gowns this season?
A. I love taking a little piece of history and making it relevant for today. The collection is inspired by historical references ranging from antique lace inspired embroideries combined with Grecian goddess drapery. The past, in the present, captured for the future.

Q. We’re certain it is not as simple as waving a magical wand; just how long does a collection take to create?
A. The bridal collection is a classic line which has been created over a few seasons; every season we add new styles and take away styles that are no longer relevant.
Some bridal styles still available today were created a few years ago which is testament to our philosophy of creating beautiful, classic and timeless dresses.

Q. Describe the design process for your collections. Where do you draw inspiration from?
A. Researching in antique markets for gorgeous pieces of textile and embellishment, draping and layering ideas and silhouettes onto the mannequin, referencing what I love to wear and what I feel good wearing, observing the world around me and the people in it. The people I love, the places I go to and the natural world, all provide inspiration. Nature never ceases to amaze me in its perfection and beauty.
Q. There seems to be the perfect marriage of style and creativity in pairing with BHLDN to carry the collection. What made this the perfect union?
A. I love working with BHLDN. They have such a great philosophy which permeates their business from the inside out, from their staff to their stores, to their product offer.
They are pioneers in the category; with their cool contemporary looks to their online offers, who would have thought wedding dresses could sell so well online!

Q. While all the gowns are breathtaking, is there one that holds a special place in your heart?
A. Ah! My favorite gown, now that’s like asking a mother to choose her favorite child.
I might have a soft spot for the Luella gown–I love the superb blend of modernity and simplicity in the silhouette married to the craft and antiquity in the embroidered skirt.
