Look around, every which way you turn Mother Nature is letting spring’s beauty finally show. The trees are full of buds, lush green grass paints the ground, and I may have even spied a blooming flower or two. Never has it been easier to borrow inspiration from the world around. With the help of the talented Beth Barnett, of Larkspur your wedding day floral will have those around thinking you spent all morning in the gardens. We chatted up the woman with a green thumb to get all the details on the recent trend of farm floral. Be transported away {or transfixed} with the breathtaking artistry of Tuan H. Bui, who was lucky enough to capture Barnett on her fragrant farm.

Q. When did you plant the 1st seed leading to your farm to wedding fresh floral?
A. We began farming flowers in 2008.  We bought a 15 acre property in Buchanan, MI twelve years ago and discovered that there were already beautiful flowers and trees everywhere and that the woman who lived there before us for 40 years had been growing flowers and vegetables for sale.  She had a great eye for unusual plants.  We found 84 established peony plants in the front yard and nails in the garage she used for drying flowers, for instance.

Q. Why should a bride choose farm floral in for her big day?
A. Just like with food, flowers that are in season and locally grown will be fresher and better quality as well as easier on the environment.  It’s extra special to be able to say you know the person who grew your flowers and that loads of transportation and energy didn’t have to be involved in getting you your flowers.

Q. I know this is like asking a mother who her favorite child is but do you have a favorite flower? Why is this the bees knees of floral?
A. I don’t have one favorite flower because I love so many and am constantly amazed at the breathtaking qualities of the flowers I get to work with.  I tend to love the flowers that I may have not seen before, or a new variety, color or pattern. Sometimes I have to look away they can be so stunning, nature is amazing!

Q. Who is the best fit for farmed floral?
A. Usually it’s a bride or groom that is Eco-conscious in their daily lives.  Someone who is drawn to artisans and craft, a bit more natural of an outlook on life.

Q. Are there any down falls to farmed floral? But the advantages are ohhh so beautiful! What do you think the biggest up swing is?
A. The downside of farmed flowers is the seasonal nature – our growing season in the midwest is fairly short.  The biggest advantage is if you can get farm flowers for your wedding, you will have direct knowledge of where your flowers came from and as stated above, a whole lot of energy was not wasted in getting them to you.  And decorating your wedding with flowers that would actually grow in the place you are having your wedding is pretty special too.

For those of you who adore watching ”The Bachelor,” today’s groom’s proposal takes the cake! To propose, Ryan sent a limo to pick up his girlfriend, Marisa. During the limo ride, Marisa watched a video of Ryan professing his love for her. When she emerged from the limo, Ryan was there with the final rose and a heartfelt marriage proposal. And to bring it full circle, Ryan incorporated the video concept into a wedding gift for his bride. While opening Ryan’s wedding gift, Marisa watched a video from secret cameras that were hidden during her special limo ride, which captured her tears and moments of anticipation leading up to his surprise proposal.

Naturally we’d expect an equally fabulous fête for this charming couple. After exchanging vows in a ceremony at St. Philip the Apostle, the newlyweds and their wedding party playfully posed for photos at Busse Woods. We love the juxtaposition of the vibrant corals against the muted wood hues. It was then time to celebrate with a beautiful reception at The Stonegate. It was a perfect day for this blissfully happy bride and groom.

From the Bride: After over a year and a half of planning, the day had finally arrived. Every tiniest detail in our flowers, decorations, uplighting, and pictures all ended up being better then we could have ever imagined. Nothing could prepare me for the range of emotions I would experience on that day. It will go down as the greatest/quickest day in my life. A day full of memories, laughs, tears, happiness, and love. Everything was perfect for my husband and I and we wouldn’t change a thing about it. Once the wedding day is over, all you have left are your memories, photos, and video. I am so thankful for the pictures and video I will have and cherish for the rest of my life. Looking at them remind me and bring my wedding day to life every day moving forward.
